This experiment consists of a computerized part plus a couple of questionnaires.
Computerized part: participants will be presented with written proper names that they will need to categorize as Catalans (e.g. Mireia) or Spanish (e.g. Rocío). They will be also presented with written English words that they will need to categorize as positive (e.g. beauty) or negative (e.g. pain). Responses will be given via button press. We need Spanish-Catalan bilinguals (with any of these two languages as a mother tongue) who are proficient enough in English as to be able to quickly understand common words such as: “Beauty, Friend, Nice, Happy, Good, Winner, Clever, Pain, Dirty, Angry, Sick, Boring, Failure, Ugly”
Questionnaires: participants will need to fill out a questionnaire on their language use and socioeconomic background. Finally, participants will need to fill out a questionnaire about social stereotypes associated to the language (Catalan, Spanish) and sociopolitical trends in Catalonia.
