FAQs

Will data collected be kept confidential?

Indeed. All data and images collected are kept confidential and will only be used for research purposes. Before every session, the caretaker will be asked to fill in an exclusive consent for each study.

Can I bring my other children with me?

Absolutely! While the study takes place, they will be asked to remain in an adjacent room where they will be given toys or coloring books. If you plan to bring your other children along, please, just tell us in advance.

Will I be able to be with my child during the study?

Indeed. In all our studies, the infant is with their caretaker at all times. In some studies, the adult will be asked to wear dark glasses or headphones with music playing so that we prevent the child to be involuntarily influenced by the parent.

 What does a visit entail?

During our studies the babies are normally seated on their parents’ lap while they watch a short video (3-5 minutes). We will observe their natural reactions.

Are the studies safe?

They don’t entail any kind of health risks for the infant. They will only be seated on their caretaker’s lap while they watch a very short movie.

How long is an appointment?

Our studies consist in visiting us one single day for half an hour. In fact, the study itself takes between 5 and 10 minutes and most of that time is spent showing you our laboratory and explaining you the aims of the task.

What happens if my son/ daughter don’t complete the study?

The studies are normally very attractive and fun for the infants since we show very colorful images or directed- children speech. Sometimes, however, babies are tired, sleepy or hungry. In those cases, we stop the study immediately. If the researcher and the caretakers agree, they can restart the study after a short break. Don’t worry if the researcher decides, on contrary, finish up the study. We will either way be very grateful for your collaboration. The most important thing for us is the infant’s wellbeing. You’ll be welcomed to visit us again in the future.

Will you tell me my child’s results?

It is important to point out that we do provide neither individual results nor clinical reports. Our studies are aimed to answer general questions related to language and logic reasoning. Nevertheless, we will keep you informed about our new findings and publications. In fact, you will be sent the general results and scientific articles of our studies.

I have older children. Can they participate in the studies?

Our participants are normally between 4 and 24 months of age. Nevertheless, we will really appreciate it if you can provide us their data. We will keep them in our database in case we did studies with older children in the future.

I have friends/ relatives who are interested in their children to participate. What do they have to do?

They can fill in a form which can be found in this website. We will contact you as soon as we receive your data.

How can I let you know about an address or telephone change?

It’s very important for us to have your data updated since it is the only way to contact you. You can let us know any kind of change, sending an email to: bebes [dot] cbc [at] upf [dot] edu.

Can the infant be accompanied with another family member or babysitter if parents can’t make it?

Yes! We will be very grateful if you could let us know when we make the appointment.

What are your hours?

Appointments will be made depending on the family’s availability. We are flexible from Monday to Friday from 9am to 7pm. Also on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.
